Newcastle

Newcastle is a village in east Clarington that has held on to its small-town character while growing at a comfortable pace. King Street is the main street, and the Newcastle Community Hall, built in 1923 and donated to the village by Chester Massey, still hosts weddings, markets and community events. The Massey name runs deep here, since the family's farm-implement business got its start in Newcastle before moving to Toronto. Down at the lake, the Port of Newcastle area offers a marina and waterfront trails along Lake Ontario. Homes range from Victorian and early-1900s houses in the village core to newer subdivisions and lakeside streets, with farms and country properties stretching north toward Orono and Kendal. Quick access to Highway 401 and the 35/115 corridor makes Newcastle an easy base for commuting west or heading north to cottage country.
